Job Description

Hachette Book Group is seeking a highly motivated and organized Part-time Assistant to join the Subsidiary Rights department. The subrights department handles domestic and international subsidiary rights, and is responsible for managing and selling the rights granted to the publisher by the author. These include, but are not limited to, translation, book club, audio, reprints, digital licensing, and permissions. This position will be responsible for overseeing department-wide administrative tasks and will work across all imprints of the company. They will have the opportunity to work closely with skilled professionals and gain hands-on experience as they own day-to-day tasks and help with special projects. This is an excellent entry-level position for someone who is interested in learning more about publishing. 

This role will be part-time, 20 hours a week.

Pay rate: $28.84/hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITILES: 

• Assist the team at large with various projects, including rights guide creation for international fairs, various backlist research opportunities, and foreign sales and publication information for agents and editors 
• Manage the rights general inbox by answering simple queries and routing more complex questions to the correct Subrights team members 
• Handle a selection of both internal and external department comms, including deal announcement updates 
• Respond to production material requests, share clearance info, quote fees, and send files as needed 
• Draw up invoices for advances, royalties, permissions, and production materials 
• Schedule meetings across the Subrights team with scouts, visiting international editors, and co-agents throughout the year. Register all guests for the building and ensure we have conference rooms for meetings. 

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

• Highly detail oriented, ensuring accuracy of work and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment  
• Multi-tasks, prioritizes, and manages time effectively 
• Displays excellent writing and computer skills, including MS Office and an ability to work in internal content management systems 
• An interest in Subsidiary Rights and licensing is preferred but not required
